We all have privacy concerns and we all have few people in our lives who just don’t seem to understand that we do not want their intrusion in our lives. This article will guide you on how to block and unblock people on Facebook and some other steps to prevent your privacy being hindered.

When you block someone on Facebook:-

  1. They will not be able to see posts on your profile
  2. They won’t be able to tag you in any posts or pictures
  3. They won’t be able to invite you to events or groups
  4. They won’t be able to add you again or start any conversation with you.

In addition to the steps explaining how to block and unblock people on Facebook, we are listing steps below that explain how to add people, pages, apps to block list and restricted list.

Step 1:-

Login to your Facebook account.

Click the button shown and select “Settings” (4th option from bottom)

Step 2:-

Click on option “Blocking” in the left side menu bar. Click “Edit List” to manage your restricted list, the restricted list is the list in which you can add those people whom you do not want to see your posts. They will only be able to see posts done with “Public” setting.

Step 3:-

Click on the button “On This List” in the new window and choose option “Friends”.

Step 4:-

You can search for friend(s) you want to add to this list or simply type their name in search box shown and select them by clicking on the names one by one. When you are done selecting, click “Finish” button.

Step 5:-

This step deals with completely blocking people. Go back to the “Manage Blocking” window and look for “Block users” section. Type the name of the person you want to block and the click “Block”.

Step 6:-

People with the name you typed will show up. Click the “Block” button in front of the one you want to block.

Step 7:-

A warning will show up, read it, and then click “Block <name>” button.

Alternatively you can visit the profile of the person you want to block, spot and click the button as shown in the image below and click “Block”

A warning window will pop up. Read through the warnings and click “Confirm”. Although the warning statements sound regular but we would encourage you to read through them before you block people.

With the growing instances of people being held responsible for their views and actions on Facebook, there could be some negative impact when you block people on Facebook. One of them being, when you block someone who is a colleague at work, and it impacting your other work place relationships.

Similar to blocking people you can block other entities on Facebook including apps, event invites and pages by clicking on the respective sections as shown in the image below.

Step 1:-

Go back to the “Manage Blocking” section and click “Unblock” link next to the item you want to unblock as shown in image below.

Step 2:-

Click “Confirm” button on the popup.

Note:-

1. When you unblock someone, you won’t be able to re-block them for 48 hours.

2. When you block someone, you too won’t be able to see their profile, message them or tag them anywhere.
