Mobile App review – Paytm – Android

Paytm is a subsidiary of one97, an Indian company, that claims to offer recharges of prepaid, and payment of postpaid Indian mobile connections, DTH (direct to home) recharges, and payments of other utility services to its customers through its mobile app (the app presents no option to do any other payment other than those related to mobile connections though).
They are a popular website and have recently entered into e-commerce as well. They recently attracted a big investment from global major Alibaba.com. The free mobile app is around 6 MB for the Android platform and has been downloaded 10 million times.
The mobile app requires the user to be connected to internet. The splash page opens to a clean interface that mimics the functionality offered by their website. The first tab titled Recharge offers the fundamental service of this brand.
The users are presented with options to pay for a prepaid or postpaid connection. User can either enter a mobile number or select one from the address book by tapping on the address book icon. The app populates the operator name itself while the users can enter an amount of their own choice. Unregistered users are taken to the registration process even if “Instant, One Touch Payment” option is checked.
The first section of the app has a nice simple and intuitive design and the user does not have to browse a lot to reach other sections of the app. The tabs cleverly take a user to the e-commerce section – only issue being there are 12 tabs of which 10 belong to e-commerce and the last one does not lead to the 1st one and the user has to tab all the way back.
There are other option on the app such as Wallet and Account that help the user manage his account for recharges as well as online shopping sections.
The app is easy to work with and has a clean interface. All in all, it is an efficient alternative to its popular website.
Plus: Clean design for basic offering
Minus: Lacking some features that are part of app description
Cheers: 2.5 out of 5
This review was originally done as a sample job for which I was never paid. Hence I am putting it online.
